Please read these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") carefully before using VocaLock. By downloading, installing, or using the app, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use VocaLock.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and VocaLock ("we", "us", or "our"). References to "VocaLock", "the app", or "the Service" refer to the VocaLock iOS application and all associated features and content.
1. Eligibility
VocaLock is available on the Apple App Store. You must have a valid Apple ID and agree to Apple's own terms of service to download and use the app.
2. Subscription and Payment
2.1 Paid Access
VocaLock requires an active paid subscription to access all features. There is no free tier. You must subscribe before you can use any part of the app beyond the initial onboarding and paywall screens.
2.2 Billing
Subscriptions are billed through the Apple App Store. Your payment method on file with Apple will be charged at the start of each billing period. Prices are displayed in the app and may vary by region.
2.3 Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions automatically renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. Your Apple ID account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
2.4 Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple ID settings (Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions). Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will retain access to VocaLock until that date. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for partial billing periods.
2.5 Refunds
All purchases are processed by Apple. Refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com . We do not have the ability to issue refunds directly. Apple's refund policies apply.
2.6 Price Changes
We reserve the right to change subscription pricing at any time. We will provide reasonable notice of any price changes. Your continued use of VocaLock after a price change takes effect constitutes your acceptance of the new price.
3. Licence to Use the App
Subject to your compliance with these Terms and maintenance of an active subscription, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use VocaLock on any Apple device that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
This licence does not include the right to:
- Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the app or its content
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the app
- Remove or alter any proprietary notices or labels
- Use the app for any commercial purpose or on behalf of a third party
- Transfer, sublicense, or resell your access to the app
4. Screen Time and App Blocking
4.1 How the Feature Works
VocaLock uses Apple's Family Controls and Screen Time frameworks to temporarily block apps you select at scheduled times. At three different times each day, your selected apps will be blocked until you open VocaLock and complete the daily word for that session.
4.2 Your Responsibility for App Selection
You are solely responsible for choosing which apps VocaLock blocks. We strongly advise you not to block apps that you may need for emergency communication, work, safety, or any time-sensitive purpose. Do not block apps such as phone, messaging, or emergency services.
4.3 Limitation of the Blocking Mechanic
App blocking is enforced by iOS and is subject to Apple's implementation of the Screen Time API. We cannot guarantee that the blocking will function in all circumstances, including after iOS updates, system resets, or changes to Screen Time settings. The blocking shield is automatically removed at the end of each 30 minute session window regardless of whether the word has been completed, to prevent permanent lockout.
4.4 No Liability for Blocked App Access
We are not responsible for any consequences arising from your inability to access blocked apps during a lock window, including but not limited to missed communications, missed work, or any harm resulting from the temporary unavailability of those apps. You use this feature at your own risk.
5. AI-Generated Content
The vocabulary words, definitions, and example sentences displayed in VocaLock are generated by artificial intelligence via the OpenAI API. While we prompt the AI to produce accurate and appropriate content, we do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any AI-generated content.
AI-generated definitions should not be relied upon as authoritative dictionary definitions. For academic, professional, or formal purposes, always verify word meanings using a reputable dictionary source.
We reserve the right to filter, curate, or modify AI-generated content at any time.
6. Acceptable Use
You agree to use VocaLock only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:
- Attempt to circumvent, disable, or interfere with the Screen Time blocking mechanism
- Use automated means to interact with the app
- Attempt to access, tamper with, or reverse engineer any part of the app's code, APIs, or data
- Use the app in any way that could damage, disable, or impair the app or its underlying infrastructure
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations in connection with your use of the app
7. Intellectual Property
VocaLock and all content, features, design, trademarks, logos, and materials within the app are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
Nothing in these Terms grants you any right to use our name, trademarks, logos, or other proprietary materials without our prior written consent.
Words and their definitions are part of the English language and are not claimed as our intellectual property. The specific selection, presentation, and AI-generated example sentences within VocaLock are proprietary to us.
8. Disclaimer of Warranties
VocaLock is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that:
- The app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or available at all times
- Any defects or errors will be corrected
- The app will be compatible with future versions of iOS
- AI-generated words and definitions will be accurate or appropriate for all purposes
- The app blocking feature will function correctly in all circumstances
9. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, or goodwill, arising out of or in connection with your use of VocaLock, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability to you for any claims arising under these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to us in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain damages. In such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by law.
10. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless VocaLock and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in connection with:
- Your use of the app
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Any harm resulting from your choice of apps to block using the Screen Time feature
11. Third-Party Services
VocaLock integrates with third-party services including OpenAI (for word generation), RevenueCat (for subscription management), the Apple App Store (for payment processing), and TikTok (for advertising attribution and campaign measurement). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies.
We are not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or practices of any third-party service. Links or references to third-party services do not constitute our endorsement of those services.
12. Modifications to the App and Terms
12.1 Changes to the App
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue VocaLock or any feature of the app at any time, with or without notice. We will not be liable to you for any such modification, suspension, or discontinuation.
12.2 Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the Effective Date above. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app or by other appropriate means. Your continued use of VocaLock after updated Terms are posted constitutes your acceptance of those changes.
13. Termination
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your access to VocaLock at our sole discretion, without notice, for conduct that we determine violates these Terms or is harmful to other users, us, or third parties.
Upon termination, your licence to use the app ends immediately. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.
If you cancel your subscription, your access will continue until the end of the current billing period, after which your licence will end.
14. Apple-Specific Terms
Acknowledgement.
These Terms are between you and VocaLock only, and not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for VocaLock or its content.
Scope of Licence.
Your licence to use VocaLock is limited to a non-transferable licence to use the app on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, subject to the Usage Rules in Apple's App Store Terms of Service.
Maintenance and Support.
VocaLock is solely responsible for providing maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support.
Warranty.
In the event of any failure of VocaLock to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund the purchase price (if any). To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to VocaLock.
Product Claims.
VocaLock, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to VocaLock or your use of it, including product liability claims, consumer protection claims, and intellectual property infringement claims.
Third-Party Beneficiary.
Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.
